2011 CCHIT Certifications Summary

A common misconception is that there is 1 "CCHIT Certification". In fact, there are various certification levels, each corresponding to a different type of product and target user base. We've written up a quick reference of all CCHIT 2011 Certifications:

  1. Comprehensive 2011 Certification (which covers ARRA Certification as well) in one of the following domains:
    1. Ambulatory (outpatient) EHR Certification
      • Built on top of the 2008 certification, there are now more criteria in the functional, interoperability, and security scenarios, as well as an optional Advanced Interoperability test script.
    2. Emergency Department EHR Certification
      • Built on top of the 2008 certification, there are now more criteria in the functional, interoperability, and security scenarios, as well as an optional Advanced Interoperability test script.
    3. Inpatient EHR Certification
      • Built on top of the 2008 certification, there are now more criteria in the functional, interoperability, and security scenarios, as well as an optional Advanced Interoperability test script.
    4. Enterprise Vendors Certification
      • This certification (conducted only for EHRs that have already passed the above 3 certifications) does not indicate any new criteria for 2011.
    5. ePrescribing Certification
      • This certification for standalone ePrescribing products is completely new for 2011 and contains functional and security criteria that must be met.
  2. Preliminary ARRA 2011 Certification (for Eligible Providers or Hospitals)
    • These certifications are new for 2011 and contain:
      • Security/Privacy test scripts that must pass
      • Functional test scripts divided into modules that correspond to the various Meaningful Use objectives. (When applying for certification, vendors must specify which objectives they are aiming to support and will be inspected accordingly.)
