Situation: Ionalytics' Selectra device filters and focuses ions within an electrical field to improve the performance of existing mass spectrometers. To extend their market, Ionalytics knew that they had to make the Selectra filter device compatible with the MDS Sciex line of mass spectrometers. Ionalytics also wanted to make the Selectra compatible with a prototype temperature control device. The integration was going to be especially difficult since the temperature control device was a prototype, with constantly-changing features and specifications. With Ionalytics' own expertise on the hardware side, they wanted a development partner that could manage the whole software integration while they focused on the hardware.
Solution: The Macadamian team identified that to make the Selectra compatible with the Sciex and temperature control devices, certain key features of the software would have to be re-written as COM objects in order to communicate with Sciex. Macadamian used our in-depth knowledge of COM and best practices in porting to complete the project on an aggressive timeframe. The results were dramatic: the team achieved a high degree of stability for the temperature control, making it accurate to within .1 of a degree Celsius.
Benefits: Ionalytics was able to concentrate on what they did best with the confidence that the Macadamian team would develop their software application. At the same time, Ionalytics captured a new market for the Selectra device—customers looking for Sciex compatibility.
