SITUATION. Documentum creates document management and records management solutions for organizations of any size.
The Documentum Records Management solution provides organizations with an effective and reliable means to comply with information management regulations, reduce discovery costs, and mitigate legal risks.
By its very nature, Records management is a complex science and is subject to extreme regulations and governance standards.
When Macadamian was asked to participate, the Documentum team were struggling to balance the sophistication of the feature set with the need for a clean, simple and easy to use interface. This was further complicated by the fact that Documentum, under pressure of a recent technology acquisition, was trying to integrate the document management with the records management product lines under a common interface model.
It was important to Macadamian and Documentum to support both the end users who access minor amounts of the functionality as well as the records managers who use the tool as a workhorse application in their everyday jobs.
SOLUTION. Macadamian completed an expert evaluation of the Documentum record manager application and delivered the analysis, high level information architecture and detailed UI design to the Documentum product team. As part of this activity, Macadamian highlighted areas where Documentum could achieve a large improvement in user experience.
Macadamian will continue to work with the Documentum team to provide guidance as they work towards merging the records management application and the document management application.
BENEFITS. Documentum received a complete expert evaluation with clear design directions which will lead to a much more effective and efficient user interface. The clarity of this new design should allow them to reduce the amount of training they need to deliver to end users and records managers.
As part of an ongoing project, Macadamian will continue to work with Documentum to further refine the interface and provide guidance through the development process as the interface gap closes.
