two entirely different things.”

About

Our Story

As a full-service software and design firm, we develop innovative and even transformational applications for our clients – work that delights and occasionally inspires exclamations of “that’s like something out of science fiction!” (We’re always glad to hear stuff like that.)

What else sets us apart? We care about the intersections of design and usability, engineering and emotion, while striving to achieve just the right amount of “wow factor.”

We’re passionate about what we do. We listen, learn and deliver. Our creative “nuttiness”, collaborative approach and unmatched technical expertise boost your capabilities and drive your success through applications that are meaningful and different. That’s something to celebrate!

Our Focus
Mobile

Whether it’s for tablets or smartphones, what makes us tick is finding the insights that grab the attention of users and keep them coming back for more. Determining which mobile platform to bet on, what’s important to users and how to monetize the value of an app are just a few of the questions we address when creating engaging, seamless user experiences across all mobile platforms.

Then we design a product to encompass all of that plus meet your business objectives. Our experienced design team lives to help people do whatever they need to do, enriching lives with what we create. And that’s pretty profound.

His secret passions include bad science fiction movies and even worse - action ones; and trying to understand Shakespeare… and failing badly. When Scott is not working he's either his kids personal chauffeur, or more likely sound asleep on the couch… the one hobby he has truly mastered.

Her project experience ranges from being a team player for larger research, design, and development projects, to conducting independent projects with clients. Working with local, national, and international clients in both the public and private sectors, her product knowledge spans a wide variety of business and consumer applications. She is comfortable with ethnographic research techniques, traditional usability testing, prototyping and walkthroughs, and card-sorting techniques. Lorraine Chapman

Lorraine Chapman

Lorraine is Macadamian’s Director of UX Healthcare and plays a pivotal role in harmonizing end user needs, client expectations, and current technology. She leads clients in identifying product opportunities, conducting research, and planning UX strategy and growth. Her ability to grasp the subtle dynamics of business context and product requirements enables her to help define UX design strategy in support of fundamental business direction. She does this for medical information tool providers, EMR, as well as companies outside health care. Lorraine is recognized as an expert in UX research and the chairperson and leader of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Usability Community. Her expertise delivering user-centric or driven solutions to health care providers makes her a sought after speaker and presenter to overflow audiences. As accomplished as she is, Lorraine is also a bit scary to some of us. She regularly gets up at 5:30 am, does a workout that most of us would associate with Navy Seals or Spartan warriors, and runs marathons when she doesn't find this tiring enough. No wonder Lorraine has earned the nickname "Xena, Warrior Princess" at Macadamian. When she not living her Linda Hamilton/Terminator workout lifestyle she loves taking her daughters to places ranging from Pembroke to Tuscany - or biking with childhood friends through California and meeting eccentric millionaire winery owners along the way.

She is a founding member of the Interaction Design Association’s Ottawa chapter and sits on the Design Advisory Board of Algonquin College.
